I thought my followers were crazy
But as I watched “Selling God” (a boring documentary, but interesting nonetheless) the other day, and observed a vast amount of people in a stadium or mega-church, I thought: “These people are real.”
People actually follow the likes of Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, and MICHELLE BACHMANN. I mean, for the love of Raptor Jesus! Hundreds…of thousands of people if not millions follow every word these three espouse. Every time they open their mouths I cringe and wonder which asylum they escaped from.
A couple weeks ago I was in the car with my dad driving to Clemson on a Sunday. I read every church sign that we passed, which was quite a bit of reading. I felt like that dog in the car in Dr. Doolittle with Eddie Murphy, Tree….Tree….Tree…. Except for me it was: church..church..church..church church..church.
It’s so difficult for me to imagine that billions of people walk into a church on Sunday and pray to a deity who is only found in the Bible; which is printed in several variations among the thousands of denominations of Christianity. If one of you is right, then the rest are obviously wrong…right? BILLIONS of people walk into that church and pray. That’s what they do. They talk out loud or in their heads to someone who is not there in front of them, or to me and most sensible people, doesn’t exist.
This is how you spend your life. Your money. Great, do what you will, but all that time amounts to what being accomplished? A feel good moment? A reassurance that your child will be cured of the gay?
The more I think about it, the more I feel that it is immoral that people do this. Not in my own sense of morals but in theirs. I wouldn’t be afraid to guesstimate that over a trillion dollars has been spent in America on building churches and their programs. You’re free to do what you will with your money, but damn people! You might not all be hypocrites and some of you donate your money to a worthy cause but by participating in churches you perpetuate the hypocrisy.
All of that money could so easily be used to find cures. To feed. To clothe. To immunize. To educate. All things your Christ preached…well maybe not the immunize part but he was a product of his environment, right? Every nail and drop of paint has been WASTED in going to a church.
Nothing will come of your Sunday worship. Nothing. In the end it means nothing. Morals can easily be found elsewhere. A sense of meaning needs only be found in yourself and not in a book written by the most fallible being on Earth because they are capable of irrational thoughts, man.
In the end, I just hate the fact that I will, for the rest of my life, be surrounded by probably logical people that are ultimately delusional.
